Collection: Fronsac

Fronsac is a medieval town on the Dordogne, which has lent its name to the red wine region. Fronsac is located in the eastern part of the Bordeaux wine region, near the town of Libourne, and borders the world-famous Pomerol region.

Until the 19th century, the wines from Fronsac were more important than those produced in Pomerol. Today, however, the area on the banks of the Dordogne is just one of many growing areas in Bordeaux that produce good wines, but do not have the potential to become top international wines.

There are two appellations in Fronsac, Fronsac and Côtes-Canon-Fronsac, often abbreviated to Canon-Fronsac. The Fronsac appellation is considered to be the better location. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec are primarily grown on the approximately 1000 hectares of vineyards.

The red wines produced in this growing area are dominated by Merlot. The result is tannic and fairly long-lasting red wines that show aromas of red fruits and spices, especially vanilla.
